Deadline Approaching for ‘British Legal Technology Awards 2018’ entries

Members of the UK legal technology and IT security community have just six weeks to submit their entries for the annual British Legal Technology Awards (BLTA) with all submissions to be received by midnight on Wednesday 11 July 2018.

Organised by Netlaw Media, the BLTA’s recognise leadership, innovation and the use of technology and IT security within the UK legal sector. Nominations for the 2018 BLTA’s are open to individuals, teams and suppliers who are helping to transform these markets.

All awards entries will be subject to a rigorous and independent assessment, undertaken by a 20-strong panel of expert judges. The judging panel comprises law firm IT directors, general counsels, professors, security experts and vendors. Awards submissions are required to provide detailed and relevant supporting evidence of their achievements, which will be evaluated against four key criteria: concept / vision, value, delivery and impact.

Four awards categories – Most Innovative Firm of the Year, Technology Team of the Year, Technology Venture of the Year and Excellence in IT Security – are exclusively open to law firms, barristers’ chambers, in-house legal teams and alternative legal services providers (ALSP). A further five categories – Innovation in Legal Services, New IT Product of the Year, IT Security Provider of the Year, Supplier of the Year (Large Enterprise) and Supplier of the Year (SME enterprise) – are only open to legal IT vendors and consultants. Two final categories – Alliance of the Year and Social Impact of the Year – are open to law firms, barristers’ chambers, in-house teams, ALSP, and legal IT vendors and consultants.

Netlaw Media will unveil a shortlist of those eligible for the prestigious BLTA’s on 11th September 2018. Awards winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony, held at Plaisterers’ Hall in London, on Thursday 1stNovember. Approximately 250 tickets for the ceremony were made available for BLTF2018, on a strictly first-come-first served basis. The event will be compered by the award-winning comedian, Tim Vine. For more than a decade, Mr Vine held the world record for the most jokes told in one hour – 499 in total.

At the BLTA ceremony, the judging panel will bestow a lifetime achievement award on an individual who has been instrumental in shaping and driving the evolution and impact of technology within legal services. Nominated by the judging panel, this award will honour an exceptional legal technology advocate who has displayed leadership, excellence and vision over a long career. During the 2017 BLTA ceremony, Professor Richard Susskind was the winner of this prestigious accolade.

Commenting on this year’s awards, Netlaw Media UK and EMEA Managing Director Frances Armstrong says: “innovative technology and robust IT security are becoming ever more crucial to the legal sector, and the BLTA’s are intended to recognise that fact. By assembling a truly exceptional judging panel, I’m confident that the BLTAs will shine a light on true leadership, innovation and delivery within the UK legal technology and security sectors. I urge all those who believe they meet our judges’ rigorous evaluation criteria to submit an entry to this year’s awards.”

Armstrong adds: “I’m very much looking forward to discovering the identities of the shortlisted candidates on 11th September, and also the announcement of the 2018 BLTA winners at the Plaisterers’ Hall ceremony on 1 November.”
